Stephanie S. Brecher joined NEA in 2012 and is the fund’s Chief Legal Officer. In this role, she leads the Legal and Compliance teams and handles portfolio company investments, fundraising, liquidity transactions, portfolio company oversight, and risk management.
Prior to joining NEA, Stephanie was a corporate partner in the international law firm Sheppard Mullin. She regularly represented venture capital funds and emerging companies in financing transactions, M&A, and day-to-day corporate matters. Earlier in her career, Stephanie was senior corporate counsel to Nortel Networks, the Canadian telecom company, and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Richard A Gadbois, Jr., United States District Court for the Central District of California (Los Angeles).
Stephanie earned an A.B. with honors from Princeton University, and an M.Sc. from The London School of Economics and Political Science. She received her J.D. from Berkeley Law, where she was Note & Comment editor of the California Law Review. She is a member of the bars of New York, California, and the District of Columbia. In 2019, Stephanie was honored by being named to the Legal 500’s GC Powerlist: United States.
