What’s a philosophy that guides your approach to investing?

Think first about what could go right. It’s easy to identify what could go wrong, but the most accomplished investors think yes before no.

What’s an unobvious skill you look for in founders?

A deep understanding of human behavioral psychology—understanding why people do what they do. Founders who are skilled at this are more effective when it comes to hiring, motivating teams, leading a board, and understanding their customers.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned in your career?

Always be generous with your time, and don’t keep track of owed favors. Trust that things will turn out well if you focus your energy on genuinely helping others.

What drew you to NEA?

I liked that NEA has a strong presence without needing to be the center of attention. The team here really embodies a quiet confidence that allows for strong decision-making, without the ego.

What’s your favorite inspirational quote?

“How you spend your day is how you live your life.” It's a great reminder to be thoughtful about all of the little things we do every day.

If you hadn’t found your way into venture capital, what would you be doing?

Street magic. Magic makes people smile and transcends cultures. Everybody wants to believe the impossible.

Always be generous with your time, and don't keep track of owed favors. Trust that things will turn out well if you focus your energy on genuinely helping others.
