After a wave of liberal reforms, India now boasts the tenth largest economy in the world. With an average annual GDP rate of more than eight percent, India is expected to become the world's third-largest economy by 2020. India's industrial movement adds 20 million people a year to a middle class population already comprising more than 300 million people.
The expanding consumer market, surging service industry, and low cost talent pool all constitute a high-growth environment presenting tremendous opportunity for entrepreneurs. It's no wonder that more and more of India's successful entrepreneurs living abroad are returning home and launching new enterprises.
NEA's Strategy
As venture capital seeks global opportunities, NEA has a unique advantage—our history. For nearly 30 years we have effectively managed a large, geographically diverse portfolio, and helped our entrepreneurs perform. In recent years, we have been selectively investing in India and have helped many of our U.S.-based portfolio companies serve the Indian market. NEA has a local subsidiary of advisors and affiliates on the ground in Bangalore and a dedicated India-focused investment team in the United States. With these relationships, our substantial capital base, and our network of resources from three decades of venture investing, NEA is fully equipped to help companies of any size, sector, and geography grow into today's global economy.
Investment Focus
NEA's direct investments in India are primarily in mid- to late-stage projects. In addition, we will make early-stage IT investments indirectly, through our affiliate fund, NEA-IndoUS Ventures. We look forward to working with India's best and brightest entrepreneurs in telecom, media, alternative energy, technology-enabled services and IT infrastructure.
